Soft, Medium, Firm, Carbon-Fiber, Combo? Choosing a custom made orthotic can be confusing due to the several density choices offered!  The following information in this article will help explain some of the common applications for each density.

Soft density is used for people requiring foot relief due to diabeties, arthritics, and for others requiring a soft cushion to relieve pressure. Very soft – Good for Diabetic or Rheumatoid Arthritis use. Ideal for elderly, diabetic and arthritic patients who require special consideration. Patients adapt easily and comfortably to the mild functional control while the correct biomechanical position is maintained.

Medium density orthotics are used by most people who require support for various problems and who have never worn a support before. These are the most common orthotics sold and are Designed for ‘average’ patients with general orthotic needs.

Firm density orthotics are used by those who have worn out their old device and require a strong support. They are ideal for athletic people who require firm control. Also suitable for overweight patients. They are considered Semi-rigid.

The Stealth-rigid carbon fiber orthotic is a unique carbon-fiber semirigid device and is touted that it is the most comfortable semi-rigid device in the market today. They are ideal for athletic people who require firm control. Also suitable for overweight patients. Semi-rigid. The full-length version features a Trimmable topcover.

Dual-2 Combo: The rear part and arch area is firm and the forefoot part is medium. Used in a full-length device where the heel and arch need strong support but the forefoot needs flexibility.

Diabetic Orthotics are soft density orthotics featuring the Plastazote 6mm topcover for maximum cushion. Slightly bulky because of the soft materials required in fabrication.
